About the Artist

MID CENTURY KIWIANA PRINT by Mikaere (Mike) Henderson.

Reminiscent and inspired by the vintage style of 1950s/60s Kiwiana souvenir tea towels and barkcloth curtains, this print utilises the clean lines and simplicity of mid-century modern design.

Mikaere Henderson is he uri o te iwi Ngāti Pikiao and graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of Design. Originally from Rotorua, Mike has worked extensively in the fashion industry in both Australia and Europe. Now residing in Kerikeri, Mike produces artworks inspired by Te Taiao (the natural world), a love of which was transferred to him by his grandmother at a young age.

This playful nostalgic design features Kiwi, Tui, Hāpuku, Pīwakawaka and Koru - icons that capture the cultural heritage of Aotearoa New Zealand. Reminiscent and inspired by the vintage style of 1950s/60s Kiwiana souvenir tea towels and barkcloth curtains, the print utilises the clean lines and simplicity of mid-century modern design. A perfect fit for those who appreciate Aotearoa’s unique flora and fauna, and for adding a touch of retro style to your wardrobe.
