Created in collaboration with New Zealand artist Jacqueline Anne Roper, the Pakati design draws inspiration from the rich traditions of Māori whakairo (carving). Originally developed for Kaleo's long sleeve collection, this design combines cultural artistry with a refined, contemporary aesthetic, creating a piece that feels both timeless and distinctly Kiwi.

Every Kaleo design is exclusive to Kaleo, produced in limited-edition runs, and shares its own unique New Zealand story.

In this artwork, Jacqueline has incorporated elements of a Pakati pattern found within her marae in Taranaki. In traditional whakairo, Pakati refers to the fine notched or "dog-tooth" pattern that runs between parallel lines, a motif recognised for its precision, structure and craftsmanship. Through Jacqueline's contemporary interpretation, this traditional carving element is transformed into a striking modern design that honours heritage while remaining effortlessly wearable. The result is a pattern rich in texture, rhythm and meaning, celebrating the artistry and cultural traditions of Aotearoa.
