PUHORO PRINT by Mikaere Henderson

PUHORO PRINT by Mikaere Henderson

Based on and inspired by a traditional kōwhaiwhai pattern, the design represents the inter-connectedness of Te Taiao ( the natural world). With elements of the design symbolising ngā moana (oceans) and ngā awa (rivers), it is a visual representation of the powerful flow and motion of water. Versions of the puhoro motif can often be seen on the hulls of waka (canoes) indicating speed, swiftness and agility.

Mikaere Henderson is he uri o te iwi Ngāti Pikiao and graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of Design.
