"Kahu’s Kowhaiwhai design just “flowed from “ him onto an A4 piece of paper, like many of his tatoo designs. The next trick was to work his unique creation… into a repeat surface pattern print that could be used as a full, all-over print on garments. Jacqueline Roper, (another one of Kaleo’s contributing artists with training in Maori art) helped with this. The result is a seamless and graceful illustration that works brilliantly across Kaleo apparel and accessories."
Christine Makaweo
Kahurangi Rihari-Poa is a graduate from Northtec, Whangarei. He majored in screen-printing and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in applied arts. ‘ Kahu’ is currently living in Morewa and working as a tattooist. With years of tutoring and experience behind his belt, he is now journeying into the realm of whakairo with the guidance of Taane Matiu. Kahu also shares his talents and skills working at Hihiaua Cultural Center in Whangarei.
